Remote Collaborations in Metaverse under 5G Mobile Networks

摘要For decades, people have been creating new ways to make remote communication and collaboration natural and effective. Recently, eXtended Reality (XR)-based remote collaborations enable people around the world to communicate in real-time in a mixed physical and virtual space, which breaks the limitations of geography. 5G mobile networks are considered as the enabling communication technology toward XR and metaverse, but the network demands of remote real-time collaborations in metaverse and how real-world 5G can support these applications have not been studied in depth. In this work, we introduce remote collaboration technologies and evaluate the network characteristics of remote real-time collaboration in metaverse under the 5G mobile network. Based on our evaluation results, challenges and opportunities are discussed.
